PDA internet connection problem?
I am trying to connect to the internet on my Tungsten E2 handheld via dial-up through my cell phone. I can connect my PDA to my phone via bluetooth, but when I try to connect to the internet, my phone displays calling and the #, but then it goes away, the PDA says retrying, the phone says calling again, then the PDA says No Carrier.
The phone is a Sony Ericsson(I spelled it correctly)z520a
ok, I've dealt with this myself once... I'm not certain your situation is the same as mine, but here's what happened to me:
I used to be a T-Mobile customer and I was able to do what you're talking about... dialing up using a Palm Zire 72 and a Sony Ericsson T610 connected by bluetooth. But then I switched to Cingular and it didn't work anymore. So time went by and I ended up with a different Palm and a different Phone - a Tungsten T5 and a Motorola v551 - and it still didn't work.
But then one day I read on a forum that your cell phone company has to activate a service called Circuit Switched Dialing (CSD) in order to allow dialup connections over voice. On Cingular, CSD costs about $4/month, and your calls will use up your plan minutes, but even then it's WAY less expensive than a data plan.
So basically, call your cellular provider and ask them to activate Circuit Switched Dialing (CSD). There's a pretty good chance they won't know what you're talking about at first because not many people request this feature. Make sure they know you don't mean a data plan. If it costs much more than $4/month, it isn't CSD.
Anyway, that's what worked for me. Don't expect very fast connection speeds. I usually top out at around 9k, which is painfully slow, but I love it anyway.
Good luck!
