How can I make my phone's audio output to my bluetooth headset?

I have an HTC Touch Pro phone from Alltel, and a Bluetooth earpiece that I've been using with it. The earpiece works fine for making calls and such, but what I'd like to try and do is see if I can have the sound output to the earpiece when I'm listening to audio files that I've loaded onto the phone. Even when I have the headset activated, however, it doesn't seem to want to do this; the sound comes directly from the phone itself.

How can I set up the sound to work with the earpiece?

You need a bluetooth headset that also has a bluetooth earphone profile and you need a phone that can use both.

You can look around the bluetooth options and see if you can set your headset to be headphones, but it will prolly not work for phone calls afterward.

A headset is specifically used for calls where earphones are used for music.

I have an over ear headset that can also be a stereo earphone. My phone can use the headset as both a headset and as earphones, but my computer can only use it as one or the other (I must tell it which when i connect)

I think my problem has something to do with the chipset or the bluetooth stack (comp is Toshiba, phone is Broadcom).
